Obituary of Hamilton Wallace Bullard

Please share a memory of Hamilton to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with deep love that we mourn the loss of Hamilton Wallace Bullard. Ham died September 1, 2023, after fighting a valiant battle with the physical ravages of alcohol. He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Whitney Pickering Bullard, and his two adored children, Winslow Butterfield Bullard and Taggart Pickering Bullard. He is survived also by his father, Roger Clifton Bullard, and his five siblings: Stapley Russell (Chris), Josephine, Gray, Charles and John Bullard. Ham is predeceased by his mother, Josephine Edwards Bullard.

Ham was a kind, caring and sensitive soul. After college, Ham embarked on a career in corporate banking, which he pursued for 13 years before becoming a “stay-at-home dad.” His wife and children were the lights of his life and his singular focus and dedication. For years he coached little league baseball. Each year he looked forward to their happy summers at the family cottage overlooking the wide expanse and sunsets upon Lake Ontario. On the very morning of his last day, he made coffee for his wife, as was his habit every day of their long marriage.

Ham was born and raised in Greenwich, CT. He attended Greenwich Country Day School, the Fessenden School and Groton School, Class of 1985. While at Groton, he discovered his talent in fine woodworking, for which he received recognition for his block front desk and highboy. Ham graduated from St. Lawrence University in 1989 with a degree in Economics, cum laude, where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. His summers included working at the Champion International paper mill in Montana and as a jackroo, mustering sheep and cattle on his cousin’s station in New South Wales, Australia. His banking career included stints at Manufacturers Hanover Trust, UBS, and National Australia Bank.

A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, September 16th at 2pm at Christ’s Church, Rectory St, Rye, NY. His remains are to be interred next to his mother, Josephine in the Bullard family plot at St. Barnabas Church, Greenwich, CT at a later date.

A bench will be installed in Ham’s memory in Crawford Park where he spent many happy years taking the kids to the playground, walking the paths or just sitting, enjoying the peace of the park.

Rest in peace, sweet Hammie.
