I’m so sorry to hear of Dr Ofori’s passing. I just learned earlier today. I’m so sorry. He was such a nice, gentle man. He left the world a much better place. He & the family will be in my thoughts & prayers. I knew Dr Ofori-Amanfo through Mount Sinai and Montefiore Hospitals.

George (the "official photographer" with the fancy camera) took pictures of Francis and the Fraternity brothers doing silly things after graduation. George is in action on the far left. Unfortunately, we never had an opportunity to see the photos because he never had a chance to edit them...

When Francis graduated from the University of Richmond on May 8, 2021, due to Covid, only two guests were allowed to attend. His parents (George and Lourdes) were to sit proudly by his side. His Dad had not arrived yet, so Mom took a pic of the graduate.

I did not know Dr. Ofori personally, but during the early days of the pandemic he came to my rescue. I am an ICU physician at Mount Sinai Morningside, and when knowledge of covid was short I feared daily that I would bring covid to my family. During the first month my then 3-year-old daughter became febrile and wasn't acting herself. I panicked and cold emailed Dr. Ofori with my worries. Instead of emailing me back, he picked up the phone and spoke with me late at night to reassure me and provide advice. I did not have the good fortune to know Dr. Ofori, but this small action tells me what a remarkable human being an dphysician he was. I will remember him. I will always appreciate and have gratitude for my dear friend and mentor for the past 27 years. As I always called him (an honorary Dominican) Jorge, I was fortunate to have known him both on a personal level and a professional level.
On a professional level, during the start of his career, as part of our staff, he was always helpful to the nurses and compassionate to the patients during the HIV Clinical Trials in the late 90s. He would give up vacation time to volunteer as a camp counselor at the HIV summer camp. He also provided me with the encouragement, guidance, and support I needed to become a pediatric nurse practitioner.
On a personal level, he gave me the confidence to drive all over the country. He always showed my parents, family, and friends love and respect. We were blessed with our son Francis twenty-two years ago, who reminds me so much of him. Whenever I reached for the phone to call him to discuss our son, my heart breaks when I remember I could no longer.
Jorge, many will remember you for your great smile, but I will never forget you for your “healing hands.” You left this world a better place than you found it. You may be gone, but you will remain forever in our hearts. May you rest in eternal peace.
