Clare Shlora, nee Heffernan, passed away peacefully at home on her 95th birthday with her daughters by her side. Clare was born in Worcester, MA, the oldest of 5 children of Ray and Margaret Heffernan. She attended Convent of the Sacred Heart in Newton, MA and Rosemont College in PA. After college Clare moved to NYC but later returned to Worcester. Shortly thereafter she met “Mr. Wonderful”, her husband of 57 years, Ray Shlora. The newlyweds moved to Montreal, Quebec where they raised their four children, Robert (Paula), Joan Whipple (George), Nancy Donnelly (John) and Marie Misisco (Matthew). After 20 years in Canada the family moved to Rye, NY. It was there that Clare became active with the Scarsdale Women’s Group and The 1st Twig of Harrison. Clare is survived by her 4 children, 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, her brother Jack Heffernan and her sister Frances Rooney, both of Rye, NY. She was predeceased by her husband Ray in 2008, and by her brothers Paul Heffernan of Wellesley, MA and William Heffernan of Gladwyne, PA. Clare’s greatest gift was her ability to make others laugh She was proudly Irish and an enthusiastic bridge player. She will be sorely missed. As she would say, “To be continued.” Donations can be made in her memory to POTS, Part of the solution, potsbronx.org. Funeral Service will be private.
