Condolences to the Latkany Family from IAABO Board #52 - Westchester County.
Bob was a member of our basketball referee's Board for 50 years. We celebrated that on March 20th of this year with our Brothers at our annual dinner. There were five of us that reached that plateau. Those of you that know Bob know he loves gatherings, or parties, or any kind of celebration. So when Bob found out that we were invited to IAABO'S spring meeting in Ocean City, MD he and Joe Levine thought it would be a great idea to attend. We would receive our award in person. Our Board supported our trip and since I was the youngest I became the designated driver. Two of the five had conflicts. The three of us spent six hours in the car and two and a half days telling "war stories" from yesteryear. History from our youth to the present day.
He was immensely proud of his family, children and grandchildren as well as Boston College.
We found out later that Bob - a world traveler - always kept a log or diary of his travels. This trip was no different. Bob had 20 questions of every aspect of our lives from birth to the present day. He sat in the back seat writing about each of us. When he found out my son was still single he immediately volunteered to find him a wife and wanted to be invited to the wedding! Bob called me in late September to tell he was still working on it! He also reminded me he wanted to referee some games with me this winter. Two OLD guys together!!!!
We will miss Bob as a Brother, but more importantly we will miss him as a loyal friend. May he Rest in Peace.
With warm regards, Phil DiRuocco, IAABO Board #52

I graduated Prep in '56 and never met Robert, so i have no personal memories to share but I wanted to wish his family my love and respect for such a long and
wonderful family life. Robert's bio reveals his foundation he received from Prep. I personally have written a book, called BROOKLYN ODYSSEY/ Amazon Books. It is the story of a fourteen year old boy who does everything possible to go to Brooklyn Prep and get educated by the Jesuits. I have also written the screenplay version, which received award certificates as FINALIST from both the Los Angeles Film Awards and the New York Screenwriters Contest simultaneously. Now I am in search of the financing to direct it as a film. I mention this book to demonstrate how much I admire all my alumni from Prep. What a world it created for us.My career has been as a theatre director. All my best to your family.

There are only a few people in each of our lives who touch us in a very special way, and Bobby is certainly one of them. We overlapped in high school (he was one year ahead of me) and we actively reconnected in the early 80s. As a result of our growing friendship, Bobby sponsored me to join him on the Brooklyn Prep Board of Directors starting in the mid-80s. Our renewed bond has remained solid ever since. One of Bobby’s notable traits was his strong desire to connect people to help advance common causes. In fact, he excelled in that regard. Another of his prominent characteristics was that he treated everyone with the utmost of respect. He was a one-of-a-kind individual with many endearing qualities. We shall deeply miss him.

I played basketball with Bobby at Boston College. Each year, he would come up to Boston to attend a practice session and then a football game. Here is a picture from 2013 with the team and many of our teammates. Bobby was a great guy, we will miss him!

Stunned and devastated over this very said news. I was fortunate enough to know Bob for over 70 years, growing up together in Bay Ridge Brooklyn.
There was no finer person and he touched so many lives. He was King of Networking as he genuinely loved people and was always there for them , always willing to help in what ever way he could. His dedication to Brooklyn Prep, our alma mater, was unmatched.
Bob and I spoke on the phone just about every morning during the week
I will miss those calls more than words can express.
RIP, dear friend.

Time and space will not allow for all of my memories of my cousin. My mentor as a little kid, the guy who taught me how to play cards, talking sports and later on talking stocks. The 26 Super Bowl trips I was able to go on with him, talking first about our kids and more recently our grandkids.
Now he's looking down on us and I'm sure it's with a smile.
Gina and I are sorry we can't be with Regina and the family,as I am unable to travel.
RIP cousin, and thank you for being you.
