Obituary of Pauline Mertz

Pauline “Polly” Helen Mertz. of Hobe Sound Florida, died peacefully January 27, 2017 at the Treasure Coast Hospice House in Stuart Florida after a very brief battle with cancer. She was 85 years of age at the time of her passing. Born Sept 23, 1931, in Rye NY to Joseph & Santa Minniti, Polly grew up in a family of 10 children, and lived in Rye, NY most of her life. She graduated Rye High School in 1948 and was married on April 16, 1955 to her High School sweetheart Robert “Bob” Mertz. Polly and Bob lived and raised their family in Rye until they retired to Hobe Sound Florida in 1994. Polly and Bob were married for 46 years until the time of his death in 2001. After her husband’s passing, Polly remained in Hobe Sound FL and lived with her sister Patty Minniti. Polly is survived by her two boys James Mertz, of Montrose NY, and Robert “Chip” Mertz, of Yorktown NY, and predeceased by her daughter Bethanne Clark of Greenwich CT. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ellen and Alex Clark of Greenwich CT, David “DJ” Mertz and Ryan Mertz as well as her daughter-in-law Elizabeth Mertz of Yorktown. Of her siblings, she is predeceased by her brothers Dom and Freddie, and her Sister Norma. She is survived by brother Joe Minniti of Larchmont, NY, and sisters Tina Izzo, of Rye NY, Marcia Greenbaum of Johnson City, TN, Patty Minniti of Hobe Sound FL and Joanne Minniti of Inverness, FL as well as countless nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Graham Funeral home, 1036 Boston Post Road, Rye NY, Friday February 3rd, from 2-4PM and 7-9PM. Funeral services will be on Saturday February 4th at 9:45 AM in the morning at the Church of the Resurrection, 910 Boston Post Road, Rye NY followed by interment at the Greenwood Union Cemetery, 215 North Street, Rye New NY. In Lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Polly’s favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children Hospital or to Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart Florida who took such great care of Polly and treated her with such dignity and respect in her final days.
