Obituary of Angelina Caridi

At the age of 95, Angelina Caridi, a truly remarkable, intelligent, talented and accomplished person, died as she wished, peacefully and surrounded by beloved family.  Angie left this world happily knowing that she did her most important job, raising her children, well.  Angie leaves behind her greatest legacy, 5 children, their spouses, 12 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.  In addition, Angie’s legacy includes the innumerable lives she touched and influenced wherever she went.   

In 1948, to ensure her family the good life they now enjoy, the young twenty-year old left her year-old baby, Rosita, and husband, Salvatore, behind in Italy and emigrated to America.    

Angie’s life achievements are nothing short of astounding.  Virtually single-handedly she raised her children while taking care of the household.   She supplemented the family income by embroidering unique beautiful fezzes valued by every Shriner who owned one.  In addition, she returned to college earning her BA and MA degrees and ultimately worked as a bilingual teacher in the Brooklyn school system.   

Upon her retirement, she and Salvatore moved to the house on Long Island and she worked part time, tutoring bilingual children in the local school district.  At 71, she finally retired for real.  Angie could then devote more time to her passions for embroidery and creative cooking and enjoyed when her table was filled with family and friends.  She was a practicing Catholic who believed in a woman’s right-to-choose.  She joined the local Birth Right Organization because they needed a person who spoke Spanish and because “those young girls needed help.”   

At 92, she started her new life at Atria Senior Living where she developed her new community of friends and grew the Atria Italian Club from eight to over thirty members. She conducted her last Italian Club meeting just one week before she passed.   

Angelina Caridi lives on through her loving and beloved family.  

Five children (& their spouses) - Rosita Caridi-Miller (Gary Miller), Dr. Frank Caridi (Helen), Anthony Caridi (Stacy), Salvatore Caridi Jr (Kathleen) and Gregory Caridi (Maria). 

Grandchildren:  Dr. Mark Caridi-Scheible, Dr. Kristin Scheible (Brian Simon), Dr. Cristina Caridi (Joseph Deferio), Genevieve and Andrew Caridi, Carley (Dan MacKay), Nicole and Alexa Caridi, Isabella & Christopher Caridi, Jason Caridi, Jessica Kaminsky (Mike), Maritza, and Daniel. 

Great Grandchildren - Maia Simon and Richard Simon; Lorenzo Deferio.
