Obituary of Lillian M. McCabe

Please share a memory of Lillian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lillian Marie McCabe, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, wife, and friend, passed away peacefully in White Plains, NY on October 25, 2021, surrounded by her sons. She was 88 years old. Lillian was born on September 8, 1933 in The Bronx, NY, to Hannah and Christopher Walsh.

She was a caring and compassionate woman whose motherly love transcended generations and families. She loved all children as if they were her own. She cherished her family and hosted Christmas Eve Dinner at her home every year, welcoming and feeding up to 50 people!

Lillian grew up in The Bronx, NY and attended Our Lady of Mercy School and Cathedral Prep High School. She married James McCabe in March, 1957 and together they had seven sons.

We find comfort that God has welcomed her into Heaven to be with those who have gone before her, including her husband, James, her sister Rita, and brothers William (Bill), Christopher (Buddy), and her oldest son, James.

She is survived by six of her seven sons, Chris, John, Matthew, Thomas, Peter and Kevin, 15 grandchildren and over 20 great grandchildren.

Some of her fondest memories include her trip to Ireland to see her granddaughter and namesake, play collegiate basketball, and her visit to Alaska to explore the remote wilderness of the northwest corner of America.

We will all miss Lillian dearly. We thank God for the time we had with her to create wonderful memories that we will cherish forever. She was an inspiration to so many, and will be forever loved by her children, family and friends.
