Obituary of Marvin L. Carlton

Please share a memory of Marvin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Marvin L. Carlton, a resident of Rye Brook, NY, passed away on July 14, 2021 at the age of 94.

A beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Marvin was born on August 8, 1926 to the late Benjamin Cohen and Fannie Samuels in Yonkers, NY.

He married Aileen Landman Carlton in 1946. Throughout their 75 years of marriage, they enjoyed a wonderful life together. In addition to being blessed with their three children—Robin, Richard and Linda—they traveled the world and kept an active, social lifestyle with friends and family always nearby.

Marvin enjoyed a successful career in life insurance. After he graduated from New York University, Marvin began work at New York Life in 1948. While he started in an entry-level sales position, his hard work, loyalty, personality and dedication resulted in promotions up to executive management as a vice president at the company.

Marvin retired in 1992 and enjoyed a bicoastal lifestyle with his wife, splitting time between Rye Brook, NY and Palm Desert, CA until 2018.

For Marvin, life was precious and never taken for granted. A U.S. Army veteran, he was often reflective upon the opportunities he was afforded, the cast of characters he met along his journey and how each experience uniquely shaped his personality and perspective.

Marvin was an avid golfer and longtime member of Tamarack Country Club in Greenwich, CT and The Lakes Golf and Country Club in Palm Desert, CA.

A joyous yet magnanimous presence, his deep tone and enunciated delivery was impossible to ignore and would add an impactful gravitas to each spoken word. A lover of the performing arts, with a special affinity for musical theatre, he was never shy to offer up a serenade (especially when it came to anything from Fiddler on the Roof).

Marvin is survived by his loving wife, Aileen Carlton of Rye Brook, NY; children Robin (Peter) Klainbard of Brookfield, CT, Richard Carlton of Verona, NJ, and Linda (Carey) Pack of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; grandchildren Matthew (Allison) Miller, Dana (Steve) Martinez, Lauren (James) Buzzeo, Rachel (Josh) Reisberg, Stephen (Lauren) Pack, Sara (Seth) Glasser and Daniel (Leah) Pack; and great-grandchildren Joshua, Isabella, Scott, Shayla, Benjamin, Rilo, Samuel, Zachary, Lily, Emma and Gia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

There will be no calling hours. A Graveside service will be held at Sharon Gardens in Valhalla, NY on Friday, July 16, 2021 at 10:30 am.
