Caroline Davis

Obituary of Caroline Davis

Please share a memory of Caroline to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Caroline Quinn Kelly Davis, 64, of Rye, New York and North Palm Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 3, surrounded by her family in Rye, NY. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Barry Matthew Davis, and their four daughters, Quinn (Carlos), Morgan (Ryan), Nell and Tessa.

Caroline was born in Port Chester, NY to Marian Howe Quinn and Richard McShane Kelly on October 18, 1956, the youngest of five children. She grew up in Rye, NY and attended Resurrection Grammar School and the School of the Holy Child. She graduated from Georgetown University McDonough School of Business in 1978, setting a precedent for her four daughters, each of whom graduated from Georgetown between 2010 and 2017.

Caroline began her career at Merrill Lynch, working as a financial advisor. She married Barry on October 15, 1983 and after the birth of her first daughter, dedicated herself to raising their children. Caroline and her family moved to London in 1992 then to Tokyo in 1995. Caroline approached each move as a welcomed adventure and an opportunity to embrace and educate her family about new cultures. She was a life-long learner with a great depth of knowledge that ranged from sports to politics to arts and literature. Her opinions were firmly held, as were her priorities of family, education and generosity. Those around her benefited both from her commitment to these values and from her enthusiastic approach to enjoying life. Caroline was always the first to suggest a late afternoon nine, a trip to a brewery, or ballgame.

Caroline was a voracious reader, a crossword aficionado, and a Jeopardy expert. Her consistent play, even-keeled nature and competitive spirit made her the ideal golf partner, as evidenced by the prevalence of her name on the walls of the Apawamis Club.

It is impossible to convey the extent to which she was admired, loved and respected by those who knew her. She was an unwavering source of support to close friends and acquaintances alike, her compassion and maternal touch reaching far beyond her four girls.

Caroline will be remembered by her siblings, Helen (Brian) Heekin of Cincinnati, OH, Richard Kelly Jr. (decd), Micaela (Frank, decd) English of Rye, NY and Mark (Kim) Kelly of New York, NY, as well as by her in-laws, nieces, nephews and countless friends.

There will be a celebration of her life for friends and family at the Manursing Island Club on Friday, May 7 at 12:30 PM ET. Please consider contributions to the GI Oncology Research Fund at Weill Cornell Medicine or NPR in lieu of flowers.
