I have no photos, no experiences to share; but knew and loved Liz though our mutual association at Woodlawn. Her love affair with Charlie was full and complete, from the moment they started exchanging letters while Charlie was in Vietnam, to their last moments together, as his was with her. A story of love that I always remember. May God bless Liz and all of Charlie and Liz’s extended family.

From 6th grade thru Senior year, I always made sure to have at least one class with Mr Northshield. Admired and respected him more than any other teacher throughout my years as a student at any level and he always treated his students with equal respect as well. Lucky to see him swimming every morning at the y and for not losing contact with him after graduation. He will forever be in our memories

We touch many lives in our lifetime, but not many people touch our lives forever. Charles Northshield, you were more than an influence, you were a way of life that I still carry with me every day. I still have the dinosaur you helped me craft from two pieces of wood at Midland school sitting on the shelf at my parent's house in Rye as well as the electric motor that runs on a lemon. I still look at every single car as they are about to turn as I am pulling out of any intersection, driveway, or parking space and think, "until they turn, we don't know they are going to turn". My wife still says to this day, who also took your class, that I drive too cautiously, but it is because you are always in the back of my mind. My days drawing in the basement of the school will never be replaced with the creativity you gave me. You presented me with the Charles Platt Scholarship during my graduation in 1987. It was not a coincidence, which you shared with me after graduation, that you had arranged to be the presenter. Charles Platt had been my counselor at Durland Scouting Center when I attended. Charlie was an amazing person to encounter, and I was personally traumatized by his sudden death in a car accident at the end of our summer at Durland. You knew about this and took me into your office and talked to me about it when I was 13, I believe. I was sold on the genuine conversation I had with you forever. I did many drawings with you together of dream houses and 3-D renderings of those houses with many friends like Ken Schiele, and David Randal while being allowed to listen to music from Led Zeppelin, the Ramones, Black Flag, and of course Rush. We also drew and painted a massive mural together of the Garnet's logo, which we created but have not been compensated for, in the cafeteria together that was 40 ft. high with scaffolds and all. I still laugh when going to current RHS games and the logo we created together is on the bumper of the current parent’s cars, yet nobody knows who created it. What else can I say...I don't know, but I wish I could sit at the green rubber tabletops, with small white pins to hold our drawings down, in the basement of Rye High School, creating amazing drawings, at least one more time with you my mentor and life-long friend. Godspeed Mr. North.....I will never forget you and will carry your influence with me always.

Ellen and I send our most sincere condolences to his wonderful wife, Liz and their children and families. We have many happy memories of Charlie at Rye HS coupled along with Liz and dear friend, Clem Rathgeb in particular, all laughing while enjoying one of Clem's corny jokes. Especially, the Port Chester Teachers Federal Credit Union benefited from their volunteer efforts over the years and its success today owes much to their spirited involvement and leadership. Those were enjoyable days in the 1970s and 1980s made especially noteworthy by Charlie's lively and caring presence. An outstanding teacher, a warm, laughing individual who warmed every place and delighted everyone he touched. Charlie blessed us with his very being and his loss to the Rye community and to our human family will be specially missed. We all can honor Charlie by living his wonderful example and by remembering and emulating his love and care for his dear Liz and their children and all whom he graced with his presence. Thank you Charlie.

I’m sure it was my aunt Nancy who thought to call me Eddie Michael. Others would say Eddie Michael as well at family gatherings but it was only when my excellent cousin said it that I felt special. That was true when I became an adult as well. Rest In Peace Charlie. Eddie Michael Wall
