Obituary of Joan Tembeck

Joan Tembeck (DeMatteis) was born on August 15, 1942 in the Bronx, NY to John and Phyllis DeMatteis. She graduated from St. Catherine’s Academy and received a B.A. and M.A. from St. John’s University. 

Joan was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, John P. Tembeck, Jr., the president and owner and of JTJ Industries in Manhattan. Joan and John had five children and lived in Rye for 37 years. They were members of the Westchester Country Club and spent their summers in Sag Harbor, NY. A talented cook, Joan was noted for her spectacular Sunday dinners. She loved animals, interior design, and early morning classes at Equinox Fitness. She was best-known for her quick wit and maternal insight. 

Joan is survived by her children, Christopher, Gregory (Jessica), Robert, and Jennifer Tembeck; six grandchildren; and brother, Jon DeMatteis. She was predeceased by her oldest son, John Tembeck, III.

The family will receive friends at the Graham Funeral Home on Tuesday March 30, 2021 from 5:00-8:00 PM.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Resurrection on Wednesday March 31, 2021 at 10:00 AM.  The Mass will be live streamed for those who are unable to attend in person.  Please click here to view the livestream.  Interment to follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery.
