Obituary of Winifred Petrelli

Winifred Theresa Petrelli died peacefully on February 21, 2021 at the age of 94. She was lovingly known to her family and friends as Winnie. Winnie was born on January 9, 1927 in New York City to James and Ellen McMahon. In 1943, she graduated from St. Joseph’s College For Women in Brooklyn, NY with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. In 1950, Winnie married Joseph A. Petrelli. After a brief time in Mt. Vernon, the couple built their home in Valhalla, NY where Winnie and Joe lived for 38 years and raised their five children: Joseph, Maggie, Mary, James, and Susan. Winnie was a patient and loving mother to five lively children. She always showed great compassion and care for their well-being, education, and the development of their talents. Winnie was an avid reader, loved her morning cup of coffee, hot dogs, and a day at the beach. She loved the color green and her lucky number was nine. Winnie is survived by her children, Joseph Petrelli and his wife Susan, Maggie Duncan and her husband Ted, Mary Petrelli and Paul Davin, James Petrelli, and Susan Doran and her husband Bill. Winnie was a loving grandmother, blessed with thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Winnie was a devout Catholic and a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Rye, NY for over 30 years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SPRYE (Staying Put in Rye & Environs). SPRYE is an organization run by Rye residents to build a support network for themselves and their peers. SPRYE services and programs help residents to enjoy a satisfying lifestyle while continuing to live in their homes and communities. Winnie was fortunate to benefit from their services.
