Obituary of Edith Louise Kutz

Edith (Edie) Louise Bolte Marshall Kutz (wife of the late Alexander Marshall Kutz) passed away on January 2, 2021 at the well lived age of 98 years in Delray Beach, Florida. She died peacefully in her sleep with her long-time loving aide, Luz Mejia at her side. Edith was born on June 22, 1922, in Mt. Vernon, New York to John C. and Louise Bolte. She attended Centenary College for Women but was called away from pursuing further college studies to take over her father’s movie theatre and real estate businesses. She began working as a cashier for the family movie theater business at the age of 15. She was a lifelong business woman with careers in movie theatres, real estate, bowling alleys, funeral homes, investing, and pheasant farming. She was, at one time or another, a licensed pilot/small aircraft, licensed mortician, and licensed real estate agent. Edith sang with her church choir during her youth and maintained her love for the arts throughout her life. In 1986, Edith moved from Manhasset, NY to Delray Beach, FL. Edith was a generous benefactor and supporter of many non-profit organizations and her church. She was ordained as Deacon of the Presbyterian Church of New Rochelle, NY in 1957, and was a very active member. She also sat on the Board of Trustees for the Church of Palms, Delray Beach, Florida for many years. Edith’s lists of achievements are endless, but to name a few: Past-President of the Variety Club of the Palm Beaches and spearheaded the fundraising in the development of the Mortie Sunshine Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital, West Palm Beach, FL; Past-President of the Sisterhood of the Church of the Palms; member of the Florida Atlantic University Arts Program; member and supporter of The Old School Square Arts Program; an active supporter of Quantum House, which houses families when their child is undergoing medical treatment at Palm Beach Children’s Hospital, West Palm Beach, FL.; worked closely with The ARC and Variety Club in making sure Ford Motor Company continued to provide Ford Vans to transport the children benefiting from the services provided by The ARC; was a strong supporter of Boys & Girls Club of the Palm Beaches by hosting annual parties at their club on holidays, which the children so looked forward to, knowing Edith made sure the gifts were plentiful, entertainment great, and food and treats in great quantity; Edith served as a mentor to the young people in her church, assisting in language and education. Edith is the Benefactor of the Edith Bolte Kutz Black Box Theatre at Centenary University, Hackettstown, NJ, where she attended as a young woman. Edith was a great asset to her community, churches, organizations, family and friends. She was a member of the Congregational Church of Manhasset, Manhasset, NY; Ohav Sholom, Merrick, NY: Church of the Palms, Delray Beach, FL; and Congregation L’Dor V’Dor, Boynton Beach, FL. Edith was a vibrant personality known for her outreach and vitality of spirit. She loved socializing and being the life of any party but also loved the intellectual challenge of running a business. Yet, she always took time to be an attentive grandmother and step-grandmother, frequently offering words of encouragement during difficult times. She was God-Mother to Kobi & Ryan Fredryk and actively pursued her role to make sure to be part of their lives. Edith was a great giver in offering comfort, love, and emotional support along with advice that can only come from 98 years of living. She is survived by her Beloveds: Sister-Marjorie Peggy Bolte Castle, Son-Kenneth Marshall (Melinda), Daughter-Janis Nadeau (Late: Mark Nadeau), Grandson-Chase Marshall, Grandson-Ian Marshall, Granddaughter-Kathryn Marshall, Sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, step-children, step-grandchildren, and godsons. She will be lovingly missed by her many family members and many close friends around the country. Entombment will be held at Ferncliff Cemetery, Hartsdale, New York. The service will be private.
