Arlene Hazel Shirken, a resident of Rye Brook, NY for over 60 years, passed away on December 22, 2020 at the age of 86. Born in New York City, she was the daughter of Irving and Beatrice Israel. When she was first married, Arlene worked as a statistical typist at the Pentagon in Washington DC. She was a dedicated homemaker, a generous hostess and a warm and loving mother and friend. She also worked as a school secretary in Briarcliff Manor before joining Bloomingdales as a sales associate when the store first opened in White Plains, NY. She continued to work into her seventies. Always a passionate collector of art and crafts, in retirement she followed this interest and enrolled in pottery classes primarily at the Clay Art Center in Port Chester, NY. There, she made enduring friendships and was widely recognized for her youthful spirit and enthusiasm. Arlene kept an active social schedule with her friends always looking forward to their next outing. She enjoyed traveling, visiting museums, attending broadways shows, collegium at Westchester Community College and was a regular at the Westport Country Playhouse in Connecticut. Arlene was predeceased by her husband Maurice of 47 years, her brother Robert Israel, her son Brad and her great grandson Moses. She is survived by her sister Judy Gelles, her son Scott and his wife Susan, her daughter Lynn Mosner, her granddaughters Hilary Mosner and Blair Feltham and her husband Jakob and her twin great grandsons Noah and Johan. There will be no calling hours. A Graveside service will be held at Sharon Gardens in Valhalla, NY on Thursday December 24, 2020 at 10:00 AM. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date.
