Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edward Wilner Sherman ("Duckdad"), a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died surrounded by his family late Friday, September 18th, at his home in Armonk, NY. He was 83. Ed was born June 18, 1937, in New York, NY, to Walter P. Sherman and Claire Siegenthaler Sherman. Ed attended Trinity School in NYC where he graduated in 1955. He later attended Brown University, where he graduated in 1959 with a major in Mechanical Engineering and was part of the University’s ROTC program. After college, Ed served in the US Air Force, where he was honorably discharged as a Captain in 1967. Ed married the former Jane Horsman in 1961 and together, they raised three children – Karen, Sherry, and Pam – in Armonk, NY. For 55 years, he was owner and president of Sherman Pressure Casting Corporation in North White Plains. In addition to his treasured Jane, his three daughters and his ten grandchildren were the pride of his life. Ed had a love for competition and adventure, as he could frequently be seen on the ski slopes in Killington, VT, on the tennis courts at Jonathan's Landing in Jupiter, FL, or going down the big slide at Westchester Country Club. He was known as "Duckdad" by his grandchildren, and his greatest joy came in supporting their athletic and academic endeavors. He is survived by his adored wife Jane of 58 years, his children: the late Karen Pyne, wife of Daniel Pyne, of Greenwich, CT and their children Christopher and Amanda; Sherry Hartigan and husband Thomas Hartigan of Greenwich, CT and their children Alexis, Jack, and Athena; and Pam Longo and husband Joseph Longo of Morristown, NJ and their children Michael, Krista, Lauren, Andrew, and Matthew Longo. Ed was predeceased by his daughter Karen Pyne and his sister Yvonne Sherman McGowen of Harrison, NY. A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in his name to Hospice of Westchester 1025 Westchester Avenue Suite 200 White Plains, NY 10604
