Obituary of Nesta A. d'Addario

Please share a memory of Nesta to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Nesta Allene Marsh d’Addario, a Rye resident for nearly 50 years, passed away on April 17, 2020. Born in Pencoed, Wales on August 9, 1935, she was the daughter of Hilda and Harold Marsh. She was married to Franco d’Addario in 1965 while living in London. They lived in Canada and New Jersey before settling in Rye. After graduating from Bridgend County Grammar School for Girls, Nesta attended the University of Wales and graduated from the University’s College of Swansea for Teacher Training in 1955. Nesta had a passion for working with children and taught in various schools around London as well as a foreign posting in Venezuela. After moving to the US and raising her own family, she came back to primary education and worked at Osborn Elementary School for over 30 years. Nesta loved working with children and had a penchant for remembering all of her students and their families. She was delighted when she met former students or parents in town and hearing about high school, college life, first jobs or how they were starting their own families. Nesta was a gracious woman who will long be remembered for her kindness, optimism, wit, sense of adventure and willingness to give her time to help others. She enjoyed traveling, reading, music, playing bridge and a good cup of tea. Nesta was firm in her faith and was an active parishioner at the Rye Presbyterian Church where she was part of the Stephen Ministry as well as a Deacon. Nesta had many strong and deep friendships that she treasured. However, Nesta’s greatest love was her family. She was a devoted wife, sister; proud mother and grandmother who instilled a strong work ethic and a sense of charity into her daughters and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed, but her family is comforted by the fact so many people in this community have expressed their admiration for this wonderful woman. Nesta is survived by her daughters, Katherine d’Addario and Caroline Logan (Doug); grandchildren, Isabelle, Nicholas and William; sisters Pamela Vaughan (Rheinallt) and Janet Dixon (Chris). She is predeceased by her husband Franco and sister Rosemary (Frank) Lawrence. The family wishes to thank The Osborn for their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts in Nesta’s memory be sent to benefit the Stephen Ministry at Rye Presbyterian Church.
