Valerie Madello passed away on April 13, 2020 following complications from a fall. She was born on January 6, 1930 to Gaetano and Antonetta D’Apice Riccio. Valerie attended Rye Schools and graduated from Rye High School in 1948. Her family lived in the “Dublin” section of Rye prior to and during the construction of I-95. On January 6, 1951, she married Domenick (Mouse) Madello at Church of the Resurrection. They made their home together in Port Chester. For the past 2 years, Valerie has resided at Brighton Gardens in Stamford, Connecticut. She is survived by: her daughters, Adrienne (Councilman Richard) Mecca and Cara (Honorable William) Giacomo; 4 grandchildren, Jacqueline Mecca (Michael Harrington), Elizabeth (Michael) Higgins, Carly and Michael Giacomo and 4 great grandchildren, Grace and Mickey Higgins and Amelia and Colin Harrington. She is predeceased by her parents, husband and sisters, Emanuela and Lucy Riccio. Throughout her entire life, Valerie maintained a sense of style and was meticulous about her appearance. She enjoyed shopping for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During her time at Brighton Gardens, she established many positive relationships with community members and staff. The family wishes to thank the staff of Brighton Gardens of Stamford for their kind, compassionate caring of Valerie during these very difficult times, as well as, her long time physician, Dr. Steven Glasser. Due to the current pandemic crisis, a Memorial Mass at The Church of the Resurrection in Rye, NY, will be held at a later time.
