Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Richard Winslow Hale (Dick), 86, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2020. A longtime resident of Rye Brook, NY, Dick was born on July 23, 1933 in New Rochelle, NY to the late Harold and Gertrude Hale. He attended New Rochelle High School and was a graduate of Williams College and New York Medical College. While Dick devoted his life’s work to medicine as a talented and knowledgeable physician, he will be remembered most by those who loved him for a life well-lived, expressed through his many passions. Dick was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He was an avid gardener and chef, always willing to get his hands dirty and share the fruits of his labor. He was an athlete, building friendships and lasting memories on the squash courts, tennis courts, and ski slopes. He was a proud member of the Williams College class of 1955, returning whenever possible to visit with classmates and wander the campus. Lastly, he was a voracious reader and scholar with a penchant for history, along with an admirable talent for knowing a little bit about everything. Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Maria, and their children Jonathan Hale and his wife Kari, Christina Hale Mohraz and her husband Jonathan, and Carolyn Hale. Dick is also survived by his seven adoring grandchildren, Jack and Ethan Hale, Sidney and Avery Hale, Catharine and James Mohraz, and Claire Ketsoglou, and by his sisters, Mary Hale Bonnette and Nancy Hale Baldwin. He was predeceased by a son, Richard Winslow Hale, Jr., who passed in 2015. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
