Obituary of Virginia R Grainger

Virginia “Ginie” Grainger, 92, of Rye, NY and Vero Beach FL, passed away peacefully at home on March 13, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. Ginie was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Edmund C. Grainger, Jr. and is survived by her four children, Edmund C. (Terry) Grainger, III (Sarah), A. Jeffrey Grainger (Moira), Janet Byrne (Tim), and Kathryn Hobbins (John). She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Ginie was born in Mineola, NY on March 29, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Vivian Brewster Rocke. She was a direct descendant of Elder William Brewster, the religious leader on the Mayflower. She was a lifelong resident of Rye and attended Rye Country Day School and Connecticut College for Women. Ginie was a world traveler, loved golf, tennis and bridge, and skied until she was 80. She was a past president of the Addlepate Ski Club, a member of the 18thTWIG, and the Rye Garden Club. She was a member of the Apawamis Club, American Yacht Club, The Moorings Club of Vero Beach, FL, and Ekwanok Country Club. A Memorial Mass will take place at a future date.
