Carmelo “Mel” John La Magna Born April 25, 1932 in East Harlem, NY Died February 29, 2020 in New Canaan, CT Born April 25, 1932 in East Harlem, NY to Lucy (Governale) and Emil La Magna. Growing up, he was a member of the Boys Club of New York. He attended Benjamin Franklin High School where he excelled in basketball. He served in the US Navy for two years. Mel was a career veteran of the automobile industry. He was an owner, and sales and general manager for dealerships in New York City, Westchester, Long Island, Arizona, California and Florida. Mel was a resident of Rye, NY and Bradenton, FL. During his final years he lived with his son in New Canaan, CT. He is remembered with love by his son Marc La Magna of New Canaan, CT, daughter Lisa La Magna of Oakland, CA, former wife and dear friend Frances (Faraguna) La Magna, and granddaughters Sophia and Eva La Magna. Mel was predeceased by his son John La Magna, and by his sister Annette O’Donnell of Singer Island, FL. The family invites friends and relatives to a viewing Thursday, March 5, 4 pm to 8 pm, at Graham Funeral Home in Rye, NY. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, March 6, 10 am at Church of the Resurrection in Rye, NY, followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery, Long Island City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
