Obituary of Judith A. Martin
Judith A. Martin, age 66, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2019 at her home in Rye, NY after several years of illness that kept her from pursuing the active life that animated her. Judy was deeply loved and greatly admired for her leadership, keen intellect, humor and deep devotion to her daughters. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Born in Lake George, NY to Joan Platte and David T. Martin, Judy’s youth was spent in the beautiful countryside of the Adirondack Mountains. She earned her BS degree from Boston University and her MBA from Columbia Business School. She had a successful career in investment banking with Goldman, Sachs & Co. in New York City and London before founding Green Home Consulting.
With Green Home Consulting, Judy worked with local homeowners to encourage the building and renovation of healthy, energy-efficient and environmentally friendly homes. Her focus on the impact of homes on the environment began in 1981 when she purchased, restored and landscaped an 80-year-old home in East Hampton, New York. Her love of nature and healthy lifestyle lead to her becoming a member of the Board of the New York League of Conservation Voters and a Trustee on the Board of Trustees for Wainwright House in Rye, the oldest holistic health center in the country. She was a member of many environmental organizations including the U.S. Green Building Council, NESEA, the Nature Conservancy, Federated Conservationists of Westchester County, and the Environmental Advocates of New York.
Judy is survived by her daughters, Rachel Blumer and Hannah Blumer; her father, David T. Martin; and her three siblings, David S. Martin, Connie Martin, and Linda Reedijk.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Judy’s memory to The Nature Conservancy or Wainwright House.
A Memorial Service to be announced at a later date.
In Loving Memory
