Mary Lewis Kearney, formerly Rye, passed away peacefully in Dunedin FL. on May 25, 2016. Mary was born and raised in Rye. A star athlete at Rye High School, she excelled in field hockey, softball, tennis, baseball and volleyball. Mary was voted class athlete. She attended Marymount College. While working at her horrible job in the complaint department at Altmans Department store in White Plains, she met her husband of 57 years, James M Kearney. They raised their two children in Rye where she enjoyed Rye Beach, tennis and softball and was an avid bridge player. After raising her children, Mary worked for Westchester County Civil Service, retiring in 1996. She couldn't leave the cold of New York fast enough and immediately retired to Florida where she spent the next 20 years making friends and enjoying life. Mary is predeceased by Parents J. William Lewis, Dorothy S. Lewis, brothers Bill and Jack Lewis, Husband James M Kearney, daughter Karen Adams. Survived by sister Anne McKay, son James W. Kearney, 4 grandchildren 3 great grand children and numerous nieces and nephews who will all miss her. Visitors will be welcomed at Grahams Funeral Home in Rye on Tuesday June 28th from 9:00 to 10:30 AM, followed by a mass at Resurrection Church in Rye at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, do something nice for someone and get them a small gift (on sale) as she so often did.
