Obituary of Br. John Hugh Greenan C.F.C.

Rev. Brother John Hugh Greenan C.F.C. passed away on August 19, 2019 at the age of 79. Brother Greenan was born on March 24, 1940 in New York, NY, the son of Hugh and Margaret Greenan. After attending Rice High School in New York City and St. Joseph’s Juniorate in West Park, NY, he went on to Iona College where he received a BA in French and the University of Hawaii graduating with a master’s in Education Administration.

Brother Greenan entered the Congregation of Christian Brothers on September 10, 1955, professing his final vows on June 27, 1965. His ministry took him to many positions including Vancouver College, Vancouver, BC, Briscoe School, Kent, WA, Damien Memorial High School, Honolulu, HI, Principle of Leo High School, Chicago, IL, Palma High School, Salinas, CA, the Tertianship Renewal Program, Rome, Italy, O’Dea High School Superior and community leader in Seattle, WA, the Trasna Renewal Program in Dublin, Ireland, and most recently a member of the Iona Prep Community and St. Joseph’s Residence in New Rochelle.

Brother Greenan is survived by his cousin Mary Kearns and her husband Michael Kearns, along with many other loving cousins. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother Richard Greenan.

A wake will be held at St. Joseph’s Residence, 30 Montgomery Circle, New Rochelle, NY 10804 on Friday August 23, 2019 from 1-4 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Church, Mayflower Ave., New Rochelle, NY on Saturday at 9:30 AM. Interment will be at the Christian Brothers Cemetery in West Park, NY. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to St. Joseph’s Residence, 30 Montgomery Circle, New Rochelle, NY 10804.
