Obituary of Michael F. Murphy
Michael Francis Murphy, aged 63, passed away suddenly at his home in The Villages in Florida.
A Larchmont native, Mike graduated from Fordham Prep and attended St. John’s University. Mike worked as a bouncer at Studio 54 in the 70’s before beginning his long career, then retirement from, MetLife. He loved being the big brother in a large family, the Beatles, the Yankees, Notre Dame football, St. John’s basketball, travel, vinyl records, big screen tvs, a well-crafted beer, all things Irish, and taking his nieces and nephews under his wing. He also loved his life-long friends from Larchmont and his friends from his “MetLife Family” in Atlanta and Tampa with whom he worked, golfed and enjoyed life. Mike made the most of his retirement, the highlight of which was his pilgrimage on the Camino del Santiago (the Way of St. James) in Spain.
Much loved eldest son, big brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Mike is survived by his parents, Maurice and Irene Murphy, and his siblings, Mary, James (Patricia), Eileen (Gene), Robert (Amy), Catherine (Daryl) and Julia, 17 nieces and nephews and three great nieces and nephews. Mike’s brother Quentin predeceased him.
