Obituary of Terry Dankel Counselman

Terry Dankel Counselman, 81, originally of Harrison, NY, died on December 17th, 2018 after a brief illness.  Terry graduated from Harrison High School in New York, received an A.B. in Biology from Wilson College, in Pennsylvania, and as one of the first recipients of a National Science Foundation Grant, a Masters of Arts in Teaching from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1964.  She married Richard E. Counselman, MD in 1968 and they remained married until his death in 1984.  Terry moved to Ridgefield in 2012 to be closer to her family.  Most of her career was spent as an elementary and high school science teacher at Oldfields Schools in Baltimore and Rye Country Day School.  She had a second career as a travel agent and certified cruise consultant.  Terry was a long time All Saints' Thrift Shop volunteer in Harrison, NY; an experienced quilter; world traveler and an avid bridge player.  However, her most important role was as Nana to her three beloved grandsons to whom she was completely devoted. 

Terry is survived by her daughter, Beth Counselman-Carpenter, also of Ridgefield, CT; her three grandsons Colin, Brady and Matt and their dad, Will, of Ridgefield, CT; Diane Russo, of Harrison, NY; many hana'i family members across the globe, and her two adored kittens. 

A wake will be held at Graham Funeral Home in Rye, NY on Friday, December 21st from 4 pm - 8 pm and the funeral will take place on Saturday, December 22nd at 12:00 PM at All Saints’ Episcopal Church.  Interment to follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye, NY.  Contributions in her memory may be made to Wooster School, 91 Miry Brook Road, Danbury CT 06810 www.woosterschool.org.
