Obituary of John J. Ryan

John J. Ryan, formerly of Suffern, NY and Manasquan, NJ, died on October 25, 2018 at White Plains Hospital, White Plains, NY.  He was 86 years old.  John grew up in Bronx, NY, the son of Alice and John Ryan and graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School, Bronx, NY and from Iona College, New Rochelle, NY.  After graduation John met and married Mary Murphy of Yonkers, NY and they moved to Suffern, NY and raised 5 children: John, Colleen, Patrick, Teague and Aileen.  John was a very active parishioner at Sacred Heart Church in Suffern, NY where he served as a Church Trustee and also taught CCD for many years.  John was a stockbroker for many Wall Street firms including Morgan Stanley which he retired from, and was greatly respected in the field. He was a wonderful father and could often be seen in the bleachers or on the sidelines of the myriad of sporting events that his children and grandchildren participated in over the years. John had a great love of Ireland, was very proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed the many trips he took there with his family.  He enjoyed music, particularly Irish music, and also loved to dance. To say that he was generous would be an understatement.  His presence will be greatly missed. 

John was predeceased in death by his wife Mary, his children John Ryan and Colleen Ryan, his grandson Aidan, his parents Alice and John Ryan, his brother Donald Ryan, and his niece Susan Murphy Coyle. He is survived by his sons Patrick Ryan and his wife Valerie of Rye, NY, and Teague Ryan and his wife Patricia of Harriman, NY, a daughter, Aileen Ryan Burden and her husband James of Lumberton, NJ, and his daughter-in-law Patricia Ryan of Princeton Junction, NJ.  He is also survived by his grandchildren Laura Ryan, Colin Ryan, Kristen Ryan, Jessica Ryan, Fiona Ryan, Connor Ryan, Lauren Ryan, Ceara Burden and Alanna Burden.

Visitation with the family will be 3-6 pm Sunday October 28, 2018, Graham Funeral Home, 1036 Boston Post Road, Rye, NY 10580.  Funeral service will be on October 29, 2018 at 10 am, Church of the Resurrection, 910 Boston Post Road, Rye, NY 10580.  Burial will follow at Gates of Heaven Cemetery, 10 W. Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, NY 10532.
