Obituary of Lawrence J. Glynn
Lawrence John Glynn, of Rye, NY, passed away on September 12th, 2018. Born in Queens, NY on November 5, 1939, he was the eldest son of Lawrence Glynn and Mary Gannon. Larry graduated from Blessed Sacrament High School in New Rochelle, Class of 1957, earned a Bachelor of Science from Fordham University, Class of 1966, and earned a Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School, Class of 1972.
After faithfully serving in the United States Army Security Agency in Taiwan from 1959-1962, Larry became an attorney in private practice in White Plains, NY for over 40 years. Larry was deeply devoted to community service and was an avid supporter of youth sports. He volunteered as a coach of several New Rochelle and Rye Little League teams, was a Commissioner of Rye Little League, and was one of the founders of the Rye Mariners youth hockey organization. He served on the City of Rye Fire Police Patrol from 1984-1986, and on the City’s Zoning Board of Appeals from 1984-1994. He also had an eclectic range of interests that included cooking, baseball, photography, boating, golf, and Dixieland jazz.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Barbara Ormerod-Glynn; his daughter Carolyn Glynn of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; his son Lawrence Caruso Glynn, wife Amanda, and grandchildren Tyler, Tea, and Trey of Flushing Meadows, NY; and his son William Glynn and wife Katherine of White Plains, NY. He is also survived by his brother Daniel Glynn of Marietta, GA; and his sister Regina Early of Dallas, GA.
The family will receive friends at the Graham Funeral Home in Rye, NY on Wednesday, September 19th from 2-4pm and 7-9 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 20th at the Church of the Resurrection at 10 am. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Larry’s name to the American Cancer Society.
