John Hancock Plunkett Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Greenwich Hospital on July 14, 2018. John was born on April 7, 1935 in New Rochelle, New York. John died at 83 years of age. He was the son of Evelyn Hancock and Harold J. Plunkett.

John graduated from Rye Country Day School, Deerfield Academy, Dartmouth College and attended The Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.

His business career began at Citibank followed by Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. John then became a partner at Thorsen, Brown and Plunkett, Inc. He continued his role also as a partner and financial advisor at TBP Advisors, LTD. from which he retired.

While at college, John was an avid and gifted jazz guitar player. He played with the traveling USO Jazz Band. His passion for playing jazz on the guitar and piano continued throughout his life.

John was a member of the Apawamis Club of Rye since 1975. He enjoyed playing golf, bridge, and traveling with family and friends.

John is survived by his wife of 35 years, Diana Luce Plunkett, his children by a previous marriage Ashley (Richard) Trivett, Amy (John) Osten and John Jr., 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He also leaves his sister Penny (Dr. Milton F) Campbell, and 4 nieces.

He cherished his life with Diana and her family. He loved the attention Ashley & Amy gave him in the last year of his life.

John will be remembered for his ability to comfort family, friends and clients with his deep resonating voice.

There was a celebration of his life on Monday, July 16, 2018 along with a private burial.
