Obituary of Mary Ann Sofia

Mary Ann Sofia (née Quartararo), 82, died January 12, 2018 after a brief illness complicated by Alzheimer’s dementia.


Mrs. Sofia was born on December 29, 1935 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. She earned an Associates Degree from Vermont college. Shortly after, she met and married her husband of 61 years, Alan Sofia on January 14, 1956. Her young married years were spent living in Bronxville where she started a family and enjoyed volunteering for the League for Service and Lawrence Hospital. 


She and her husband were members of the NYAC, Westchester Country Club while living in Harrison, NY. In the late 80’s she and her husband moved to Florida having homes in Palm Beach, Boynton Beach, Jupiter Inlet Colony and Tequesta.   Mrs. Sofia was an active member of the Palm Beach Choral Society and Bel Canto for many years in Florida.  They enjoyed the good life filled with friends and many rounds at Turtle Creek Golf Club.


She is survived by her husband Alan, children Lynn S. McGuinn, Theodore C. Sofia, grandchildren Elizabeth, Danielle and Carolyne McGuinn, her brother, Anthony M. Quartararo and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her brother Jack Quartararo.


A Mass of Christian Burial to be held at Church of the Resurrection, Rye, NY on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11:00 AM.


In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Organization, Dutchess County Chapter, Poughkeepsie, NY.
