Obituary of Lillian J. Marrone
Lillian Joan Marrone of Greenwich, Connecticut passed away at home on October 15, 2017. She was 80 years old. Lillian was born on August 24, 1937 in the Bronx to the late James and Molly (Singleton) English and raised there alongside her late siblings Edward, Agnes and Carmel. She attended Marymount and Hunter Colleges, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from Hunter College in 1962. As a young woman she worked for Bell Telephone Company.
In 1959, Lillian married Ernest R. Marrone. The two met at a church dance in the Bronx. They moved to New Rochelle with their two children in 1966. Lillian, a dedicated mother, created a loving home. An active member of the community, she volunteered at St. Pius X Church and the parents’ associations of The Ursuline School and Fordham Preparatory School. Working alongside her husband Ernest, Lillian managed the bookkeeping for his chiropractic practice for 58 years.
Lillian and Ernest shared a deep love of opera and classical music and were keen supporters of the Metropolitan Opera and Carnegie Hall. They also loved to travel and toured many parts of the world together. An avid tennis player, Lillian also enjoyed playing tennis at Westchester Country Club with friends. Her family said, “Lillian enriched the lives of all who knew her. A loving and wonderful, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and a thoughtful listener and great friend, she was a source of wisdom and love to her family and many friends.”
She is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Ernest Marrone; her loving children, Judith (Bill) of Rye, NY and Ernest (Jennifer) of Southbury, CT; her six cherished grandchildren who adored her: William, Luke, Grace, Lily, Caroline and Margaux; her numerous beloved nieces and nephews and her many dear friends.
