Obituary of Mildred Ann Labella
Mildred Ann (Millie) Labella, 90, of Rye, NY and most recently Lititz, PA passed away on August 16, 2017 in Lititz, PA.
Mildred A. Labella was born in Port Chester, NY to Vito and Josephine Labella on April 26, 1927. She went to high school at Rye High School and graduated in 1945. She went on to earn a certificate in electrolysis. She worked as a Medical Assistant for several dermatologists including Dr. Mann and Dr. Davis for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, cooking, gardening, swimming, quilting and exercise classes. A devoted animal lover, Mildred cared for many beloved cats over her lifetime. She was a member of Church of the Resurrection, The Cardinal Newman’s Society and Rye Seniors. Residing in the same home in Rye for over 88 years, Mildred was recognized by NY State Senator George Latimer with a proclamation at a neighborhood block party in 2016 surrounded by lifelong friends, neighbors and family.
Mildred is survived by her brother and sister in law, Vincent and Eleanor Labella of Lititz, PA, brother in law, Joseph Hannigan, Stony Point, NY, Nephews Michael Hannigan, Dayton, OH, Stephen Hannigan, New Windsor, NY, James Labella, Liberty, NY, Peter Labella, Elizabethtown, PA, nieces Kathy Blank, Plano, TX, Karen Labella, Alamo, CA. She is preceded in death by her parents, Vito and Josephine Labella and sister, Ida Hannigan.
The family will receive friends at the Graham Funeral Home in Rye, NY on Friday, September 8th from 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at The Church of the Resurrection, on Saturday, September 9th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Rye Brook, NY.
Memorial donations may be made to Humane Society of West Chester, 70 Portman Rd, New Rochelle, NY 10801. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Mildred’s many friends and neighbors and Senator George Latimer who honored her in 2016. They would also like to thank Traditions of Hersey, Luther Acres and Masonic Village Hospice for their compassionate care.
