Obituary of Charlotte M. Flinn

Charlotte M. Flinn (née Lederer) of Rye NY passed away August 17, 2017 after a long and very courageous fight with Primary Lateral Sclerosis, surrounded by family, books and art - the things she loved best.

Charlotte was the daughter of Charles and Loretto Lederer; she and her twin sister Anne Turco (also of Rye), were born on their mother's birthday (the twins refuse to confirm what year), in Chicago, and grew up in Greenwich.  They were proud graduates of Our Lady of Good Council (White Plains, NY) and Marymount College (now Marymount University, Alexandria, VA).
In 1961, Charlotte made what she considered to be her best decision, when was married to the love of her life, Bob Flinn; they had a wonderful 46 years together filled with love, fun and a bit of adventure. She helped nurse Bob through his final days.
She was an engaged mother to her four children and very enthusiastic grandmother; and she was an excellent friend to many, including a number of lifelong pals.

Charlotte was a convivial host and loved to throw a good party or have friends for the weekend. She loved to travel, and explore new places, eventual visiting four continents and dozens of countries. She was an adventurous eater, and a voracious reader and movie fan. And she was a real taste-maker. She was the owner of the Charlotte M. Flinn Gallery of Art in Vero Beach; a designer of some note and a skilled decorative painter. She and Bob collected art, antiques, and country clubs. 

Sadly, she was unable to enjoy many of these things in her final years as she suffered from PLS (a rare disease akin to ALS) and FTD, twin diseases that robbed her of so much. She was unable to communicate, which sometimes rendered her terse or distant, and was unwilling to be a burden to her friends, so she started to shut herself off. Despite the isolation that PLS caused, she was able to spend time with her devoted children Doug Flinn, Evan Flinn, Colin (& Susie) Flinn, and Leslie Flinn and most especially with her beloved grandsons, Jack Saucedo and Grady Flinn; and they in turn were able to shower her with love and devotion and great affection. 

And so her family asks that you raise a glass (preferably a scotch old fashioned or a vodka with orange slice) in honor of Charlotte, Choosh, Mom, Gaga, Char! Cheers to a life well-lived and well-loved!
