Alexander John (AJ) Abate, a Rye resident for 16 years died peacefully in his sleep early Wednesday morning at his home in Port Chester NY. AJ was the son of John Thomas and Kimberly (Toor) Abate. He is survived by his brother Andrew (Drew) and his sister Abigail (Abby) and his grandparents Mario and Rita Abate and Great Aunt Vickie Barrows. While AJ was limited physically and mentally from birth, his ability to impact lives through his spirit, attitude and smile was monumental. He was a gift to all who came in contact with him from day one. His spirit will live within all he touched in his near 17 years on earth. AJ is further survived by his Aunts and Uncles - Kevin and Christine Toor, Jane and Kevin Nugent, Mary Jo Tucker and Bobby Bramson, Carolyn and Tom Lowenthal, Laura and Steven Schaffer, Donna and Jim Potter and his 22 first cousins (Kevin, Jordan, Samantha, Jack, Meredith, Holly, Nan, Kristin, Ryan, Kerri, Samantha, Adam, Jessie (Alvin), Susie, Meryl, Campbell, Holden, Anna, Chloe, PK, Dan and Tori. Family will receives friends at the Graham Funeral Home in Rye, NY on Sunday June 11, 2017 from 2:00-6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday June 12, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Church of the Resurrection in Rye, NY. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation can be made in memory of AJ Abate to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School in the Bronx www.ollnyc.org/donate or Blythedale Children’s Hospital Att.
