To this day whenever I play Prokoviev or Debussy I thank Huguette van Ackere for her wonderful teaching and tolerance for my piano abilities. I learned all I know about Francophone composers and challenging key signatures from her, a deep exploration that serves me well, to this day. It was a valuable piece of my New York years. Thank you, Professor van Ackere!

Merci, Madame. Je ne vous oublierai jamais.

Daniel, Nicole and Michel: You have my deepest condolences. Your mother was a valued friend of my late parents, Lynn and Margaret Bartlett, and was my kind, patient piano teacher when I was a child. (Daniel, you may remember that we attended what was then Arlington Elementary School together.) She was always so welcoming when I arrived at your home on Raymond Avenue for my lessons, and her passion for music was inspiring. I also remember with great pleasure her solo performances at concerts by the Hudson Valley Philharmonic. My thoughts are with you all.

I'll always remember Mrs. van Ackere's warm and welcoming way. An accomplished and kind person who was never too busy to make you feel included and at home. She was such a nice lady.

Your mother was such a beautiful combination of elegance and kindness.
To have a mom in the neighborhood be such an amazing musician and yet so happy to stop and say hi for a bit is not common.
I know my mom and brother knew her particularly well, and cherished that so, but I can safely say I will remember her fondly and will long recall the sound of her delightfully distinctive voice.
